Source: Waltrip perhaps used jet fuel

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Michael Waltrip’s team was accused of
trying to boost horsepower with an illegal substance — possibly a form
of jet fuel, a person with knowledge of the NASCAR investigation told
The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The substance was found
inside the intake manifold of Waltrip’s new Toyota Camry before
qualifying for the Daytona 500 on Sunday. NASCAR seized the part and
shipped it back to North Carolina for analysis, and spent all day
Wednesday pulling parts and pieces from under the hood.

NASCAR is continuing the investigation, but according to ESPN,
Waltrip’s crew chief has been suspended indefinitely and Waltrip docked
100 points.

The manifold is a part of the engine that supplies
the fuel/air mix to the engine cylinders. Waltrip’s team coated the
inside of it with an illegal substance that is believed to be a gelatin
form of jet fuel, according to the same official, who requested
anonymity because NASCAR had not finished its investigation.

Waltrip’s team maintains it was oil.

Every one thinks that “Jet fuel” is such a volatile fuel, but it isn’t. Jet fuel is nothing more than natha-kerosene. So I don’t see why they (NASCAR) is coming to the conclusion that jet fuel has anything to do with the substance found in Waltrip’s intake manifold.

Good point, and just some garage speculation to be sure but a great example of all the rumors in the paddock right now. CJ, what the heck was MW doing this during qualifying for a race this car number (55) is already in?

Perhaps it is not quite a jet fuel but something else with a tenuous association with jet fuel. I’ve heard a speculation on an oxygenate which would boost the octane illegally.

This whole thing is starting to smell really bad, no pun intended. Were NASCAR inspectors looking especially close to the new Toyotas? Again, why would MW Motorsports pull this at the start of the
    first season?
It’s been LOTS of publicity for the sport in general during an already (ESPN) packed week that had plenty of stories besides this. You know what they say about pub. But, I bet SOME of the good ol’ boys in the paddock are having a pretty good laugh to themselves right about now , adding fuel to their Toyota-hating minds’ fire.
